Mary Sherlach. The Trumbull, Conn., resident was shot and killed as she ran toward the shooter, said Janet Robinson, the superintendent of Newtown Public Schools.
Sherlach was remembered as being vivacious, a dedicated Miami Dolphins fan and a devoted school psychologist who intervened on behalf of children not just on that horrific day, but throughout her life — a trait that runs in her family.
“Mary is remembered as a loving wife and mother, and a caring soul who was always there to lend an ear or a shoulder to someone in need,” according to the obituary.
“She changed her husband’s life,” Wallace recounted of Simek’s eulogy. “(Simek) just recalled her vivacity, her love for her neighbors and friends, always reaching out.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield County Community Foundation, Fund for Health and Wellness, 383 Main Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851, to continue Sherlach’s work with children and mental health.
