Anne Marie MurphyTeacher, Anne Marie Murphy, 52, a 14 year resident of Sandy Hook, CT formerly of Katonah, NY died Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Sandy Hook School Tragedy. She was born July 25, 1960 in Mount Kisco, NY, the daughter of Dr. Hugh and Alice McGowan of Katonah and graduated from St. Mary’s School in Katonah, John F. Kennedy H.S. in Somers, NY and Southern CT State University with an MS degree in Education. Anne was employed by the Newtown Board of Education as a Teacher at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan gave the homily at Anne’s service. Dolan underscored her sacrifice. “Like Jesus, Annie laid down her life for her friends. Like Jesus, Annie’s life and death brings light, truth, goodness and love to a world often shrouded in darkness, evil, selfishness and death,” the cardinal said.

Murphy’s family said the Sandy Hook resident, originally from Katonah, N.Y., was “fun-loving,” and “artistic,” according to Newsday. She loved the outdoors and her family.

In Murphy’s obituary, her family asked for donations to be made to the charity Autism Speaks, a Princeton-based organization that can be found online at www.autismspeaks.org.
